Know Your Numbers
Dr. Conigliaro Jones
I am writing to bring attention to the fact that you need to KNOW YOU NUMBERS! In order to take better care of ourselves, we need to regularly check and know our blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, A1C, and BMI.
We have to at least go see our primary care provider once a year (more often if necessary) and get routine physical exams done. Find a good primary care provider that you like and feel comfortable with so you can KNOW YOUR NUMBERS! Find out what your blood pressure reading are and make sure they are in a good range. Manage your blood sugars and cholesterol values. Control your weight and stay active. God gave us all one body to take care of.
Furthermore, if at all possible know your family history and get clues as to what situations you should be mindful to monitor. Ask your parents and siblings and grandparents, etc about health issues. This information is of tremendous value to your primary care provider to guide him or her to best care for you. Don't be bashful, ask your family about their medical problems and get screenings done routinely with blood work, mammograms, colonoscopy, and annual physicals.
After all, who's going to care more about your health than you?
