Building a Christian Community Through Peace by Striving Together in Unity
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom. Colossians 3:15-16
Truth be told we hear these words, we say them, we agree with them, and they make us feel good. But when it comes to implementing them, demonstrating them, and applying them in our everyday lives, many of us forget, we fall short, and fail to bring the manifestation of its meaning. We seem to think because we agree with the Word it will automatically bring change in our lives. No “one size fits all” works here! We must also be doers of the Word! It won’t automatically change us if we are only hearers!
As we build a Christian Community, we must seek to remember God’s will. Scripture reminds us as members of the church, we are designed to work together. The body has many parts and all works together for the good of him who loves the Lord. When one is not functioning, we must bridge together, build each other up, inform each other, encourage each other, offer peace; as a team, work together. “So, if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, ... Philippians 2:1-7” Apostle Paul tell us that God cares about how we interact with each other, because the action of one person can impact the whole community of believers. If we don’t build it up, it will weaken, the foundation of the community breaks down, communication gets lost.
We must fully devote to unity and peace. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. Let us be found in unity, building relationships, demonstrating peace. Let peace awaken the Fruit of the Spirit, where there is peace there is patient, where there is patience there is kindness, there is goodness. We help each other when we teach and admonish the message with gentleness, through gentleness we have self-control which brings us joy and the faithfulness of God’s love. And whatever we do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
God offers us Peace and Hope through Romans 5:1. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”
