How to Turn a Bad Situation into Good

Paul knew all too well about being in bad situations. One of those situations include an account of him in Acts 16 when he and Silas were thrown into prison because the Roman soldiers felt that Paul forced them out of business. Paul had cast a spirit of divination out of the woman who was making them money by way of this evil spirit. In return the Roman soldiers had them put in jail. Though Paul and Silas were put in jail, they decided to praise God anyway. While they were praising God, angels came and opened the prisons doors. They then had access to leave…but they stayed. And, because Paul stayed, a life was saved, twice over, and an entire household was added to the body of believers in Christ.

There are numerous other accounts of bad situations being turned to good in the scriptures; Jesus and the event surrounding his death. The Jews had Jesus put into prison on false accusations and choose to have a murderer released instead of Him, who did no wrong. In the book of Genesis, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, who did it only because they hated him. As we know, he went from the “pit to the palace” and has his brothers’ fate in his hands.

In all of these Bible stories, lives were saved. By staying in prison, when he could have left, Paul saved lives and helped others come to Christ. Jesus’s perfect sacrifice allowed the entire world to be saved. Joseph saved a nation of people from starvation. Talk about bad situations being turned into good ones. Just because you are being faced with adversity doesn’t mean that it’s the end, that you are inadequate, or that you are going through it alone. It doesn’t even mean that you are being punished. The disciples asked Jesus, “who sinned, the man or his parents, that he was born blind”? Jesus told them that it was neither, but that it was so the works of God could be made manifest in him. (John 9:2-3). Many challenges that we go through in life are designed to enlighten us or others around us and enable to see God’s goodness, which in return, will make us better people.

The next time that you are faced with a bad situation, don’t think of giving up, instead have faith that it is only working together for your good! Romans 8:28 says, “and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. Also, your challenge might not be for you, but it could be to help your family, friend, or neighbor, like in Joseph’s case. When I am faced with trials and tribulations in my life, I remind myself that God will not allow me to suffer more than I can bare.Know this, many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers him out of them all (Psalms 34:19).
